Disqualification Process

A disqualification is a penalty which results in a player being removed from the tournament. A player who is disqualified:

  • Loses their current match (if they are currently playing a match)
  • Is dropped from the current tournament
  • Does not receive any additional prizes they are due, but may keep any prizes they have already received.

Then the disqualified player and the head judge(s) and/or tournament organizer(s) of the tournament are responsible for submitting their respective disqualification form within one (1) week of the tournament end. These reports are considered by the Player Conduct Committee, which then makes a recommendation to Legend Story Studios on further action should be taken (if any).

For Players

Being disqualified from a tournament can be a difficult experience. This guide is designed to help you understand what happens next and how you can participate in the review process.

I've been disqualified. What happens now?

After a disqualification, the Player Conduct Committee (PCC) will investigate the incident. This process is thorough and considers all submitted statements from judges, tournament officials, and involved parties - including yourself.

  • The investigation process may take up to two months.
  • Once complete, the Committee will determine if any further action is required.

Can I share my side of the story?

Yes, and we encourage you to do so.

To ensure your perspective is considered, you may submit a written statement within one (1) week of the disqualification date. This is your opportunity to explain the situation from your point of view. You may write your statement in any language, but English is preferred so the Committee can review your original words without needing translation.

Ways to submit your statement:

  • Directly to the Head Judge or Tournament Organizer at the tournament, or
  • Via the online form (also linked below)

What outcomes are possible from the investigation?

The Player Conduct Committee will review all materials and determine one of the following outcomes:

  • No Action - You receive an email confirming that no further steps are necessary.
  • Warning Letter - You are issued an official written warning via email.
  • Suspension - You are suspended temporarily from all official Flesh and Blood events. Typically 3-12 months.
  • Ban - You are suspended indefinitely from all official Flesh and Blood events.

Can I still play in other tournaments?

Yes. You may continue participating in other Flesh and Blood events, unless/until the Player Conduct Committee issues a suspension or ban. If you were disqualified from a tournament at a multi-tournament event (e.g. a World Tour weekend), you may still join other tournaments at the discretion of the Tournament Organizer.

Will I receive points or prizes from the event I was disqualified from?

No. You may keep any prizes you have already received, but you will not receive any additional prizes you are due from that tournament.

For Judges and Tournament Organizers

Before and During the Disqualification

You are about to, or are in the process of disqualifying, a player. This guide outlines the necessary steps to complete the process professionally and respectfully. Remember: for many players, disqualification can be an emotional experience. Your professionalism and empathy are key to ensuring a smooth and respectful conclusion to the situation.

Please ensure the following steps are completed at the event:

  • Explain the Infraction and Penalty - Clearly inform the player of the infraction they have committed and explain, to the best of your ability, the reason for the disqualification.
  • Provide the Outline of the Disqualification Process - Assist the player in locating this page so they understand what the process is. If the player does not have access, offer the player a printed copy instead.
  • Inform the Player of Their Right to Submit a Statement - Let the player know they may submit a written statement within one (1) week of the event, sharing their perspective on the situation.
    • This can be submitted to the head judge or the tournament organizers at the event, or submitted digitally using the Player Disqualification Report Form (above).
    • Encourage (but do not pressure) the player to submit a statement, as it is their best opportunity to ensure their voice is heard by the Player Conduct Committee.
    • Statements in English are preferred, but other languages are accepted if the player is more comfortable using them.
  • Document the Game State (if applicable) - If the disqualification involves a specific game state, take a photograph of the match, ensuring all relevant cards are visible. This will assist you when writing your judge statement.
  • Gather Player Information - Collect the player's full name and GEM ID for inclusion in your post-event report. (Refer to the official checklist for any additional required data.)
  • Remove the Player from the Event - The player should be removed from the current event and will not receive further prizes unless they have already been awarded. The player may still participate in other events unless the Tournament Organizer (TO) decides the infraction warrants removal from the venue entirely.
  • Answer the Player’s Questions - Be prepared to answer any questions to the best of your ability. Do not speculate or guarantee any outcomes from the Player Conduct Committee's investigation.
  • Collect Additional Statements - Gather written statements from any involved parties, including opponents, spectators, or fellow judges.

After the Event

Once the event concludes, complete the following steps:

  • Submit Your Judge Statement
    • Use the online form (also linked below)
    • Fill out all required fields and upload all relevant supporting documents and statements.
  • Be Thorough and Objective
    • Provide a detailed and clear account of the situation, ensuring that someone not present at the event can understand what occurred.
    • Clearly outline the infraction, how it was committed, and the evidence or observations that led to your decision to disqualify the player.

What Happens Next

After submission, the Player Conduct Committee will review the case and determine the appropriate outcome. Any outcomes are communicated directly to the player. If additional information is required, the Committee may contact the relevant individuals involved.
