How does it feel to be a two-time Pro Tour Champion?
It is not only a monumental achievement and the icing on top of a lifetime cake playing TCGs, but also proof to myself that the first one was not a fluke. Couldn't be happier about being the first one to do this in the best game with the greatest community!
What were your nerves like in that final game against Max? Were you calm or terrified?
Going into this tournament I tried changing my mindset and trying to flow with the things that were happening and just having a great time. After a really stressful (and great!) game in Top 8, I couldn't be happier that my joke with Max about playing in the finals again did come true. So I was extremely happy, but also feeling relaxed because I knew I was in for a good time.
That moment where you drew Command and Conquer to pop Phantasmaclasm - was that the moment you knew you were going to win the Pro Tour? What did that feel like?
After joking about it, the Command and Conquer actually appearing off the top of my deck to put the last nail in the coffin made me feel like it was just meant to be. It was absolutely game breaking and an incredible highroll, and Max laughing at it goes miles to show his positive character.
What was your favourite game this weekend?
Getting revenge for my defeat at the Spanish National Championship from quite some time ago and playing with Max in finals was just special. Gameplay-wise, the game with Leo in Top 8 was insane and I hope really fun to watch!
Why did you decide to play Enigma? What other heroes were you considering bringing to the event?
After flying to The Armory testing house in London a week prior to the event I had pretty much locked in Nuu. Two gruesome days of much testing later, I knew I was NOT on Nuu, so I had to start searching for a new hero, and my games with Enigma were so silly and so funny that it was quite obvious what should I play. Props to Michael Feng for insisting on the fact that I should play her, and to both him and Arthur Trehet for those Enigma Cabal late night discussions where we built our 80. Almost played Slippy though. That deck is so much fun!
What's your advice for new players? How can they get to the pro level?
Don't be afraid to ask any player at your LGS for tips! I'm sure they will be glad to help. It is true that some heroes are easier to pilot than others but all of them require quite a lot of time and there's no shortcut for getting better, so make sure you enjoy playing and getting better will just come naturally as you jam more games! I don't think there is a gap between good and "pro" players, just people that haven't had the chance to prove themselves yet!
As a fan of the Guardian class, what are you hoping to see from Mastery Pack: Guardian?
I hope that Guardian's identity becomes more defined with this set, as it seems like other classes have started to take some of the things that made Guardians unique. I also think the class needs a lot of powerful new cards, so I'm really excited to see those Seismic Surge synergies! Some support for the strongest man in Rathe wouldn't be bad either...
Which hero will you play now that Enigma is Living Legend?
All Earth heroes seem much more interesting now, I can see myself playing any of them or Nuu!
Which hero are you most excited for in High Seas?
Polly Cranka! In all seriousness, I'm a big Pirate fan and all three of them are very appealing, but perhaps I am more intrigued to see where Marlynn takes the Ranger class (I did after all enjoy throwing big arrows with Riptide at Pro Tour: Amsterdam).
